Annual; stems erect, usually branched from base, 10-30 cm, finely pilose with adpressed retrorse eglandular hairs. Leaves ± triangular-ovate, 0.8-2 x 0.5-1.2 cm, crenate to serrate, finely pilose, with or without sessile glands, cuneate, subcordate or truncate; petiole 0.4-1.6 cm. Inflorescence paniculate, of ± compact many-flowered pedunculate cymes arising from upper leafaxils, distant or ± approximating. Bracteoles linear-filiform, clearly shorter than calyces. Calyx tubular, 5-7 mm, ± ovoid in fruit, burved, mouth clearly oblique, lower lip cleft, pilose-villous, eglandular or not, often coloured, striate; teeth shorter than tube, median lobe of upper lip clearly longer than laterals. Corolla lilac to violet, 6-9 mm; tube 4-7 mm. Nutlets ovoid, rounded trigonous, c. 1.5 x 0.7 mm, flatly tuberculate. Fl. 4-6. Sandy and stony ground in steppe, 850-1850 m.
