Herb to 100 cm, eglandular. Leaves greenish, loosely adpressed stellate tomentose above, densely whitish stellate-tomentose beneath, basal leaves broadly ovate-eordate, obtuse, coarsely crenate, 6-20 x 6-12 cm, petiole to 28 cm. Floral leaves shortly petiolate, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, to 3 x as long as verticillasters. Verticillasters 2-5, distant, 12-20-flowered. Bracteoles numerous, subulate, curved upwards, 10-20 x 1-2 mm, densely stellate-tomentose. Calyx 20-25 mm, ± densely stellate-tomentose, teeth spreading, 25 mm, subulate. Corolla yellow, 30-35 mm, upper lip galeate, ciliate. Nutlets glabrous. Fl. 5-9. Coniferous and deciduous woods and clearings, Corylus scrub, 300-1700 m.
