Perennial suffruticose herb. Flowering stems erect, often purplish, unbranched, 20-30 cm, ± retrorse-pubescent below with sessile glands, densely capitate-glandular-villous above. Leaves mostly basal, trisect, rarely with an extra pair of lateral segments, terminal segment linear-obovate, 1-1.8 x 0.4-0.6 cm, eglandular-pubescent with numerous sessile glands, greyish, apically crenulate to serrulate; petiole 0.7-1 cm, sparsely ciliate. Verticillasters 2flowered, clearly distant. Bracts lanceolate-acuminate, c. 5-8 x 2 mm; bracteoles present. Pedicels 6-8 mm. Calyx ± tubular, 15-18 mm, suffused purplish, densely capitate-glandular villous, split to c. 1/3 of its length. Corolla deep blue with a white spotted lower lip, c. 30-40 mm; tube c. 22 mm, annulate. Stamens A. Nutlets not known. 2n = 14. Fl. 6. Limestone hills, 800-1350 m.
Endemic. E. Medit. element. Closest to S. Potentillifolia  but with smaller grey foliage, larger blue/white corollas and less deeply split calyx lobes. Very handsome.
