Similar in general facies and leaf shape to S. nemorosa, but usually a more branched taller plant; stems villous with long flattened multicellular eglandular hairs; leaves all sessile or very shortly petiolate with a sparse indumentum of longer hairs on the lower surface; bracts rather smaller, less strongly violet coloured. Fl. 5-6. Sandy places, field edges, roadsides, 50-100 m.
