Similar in facies, indumentum and flower colour to S. hypargeia but with broader linear-oblong leaves , basal leaves sometimes suberose; bracts larger, 20-30 x 25-35 mm, ovate; calyces larger, c. 15 mm in flower, to c. 18 mm in fruit, with clearly tridentate upper lips with mucronate teeth. Fl. 5. Calcareous slopes, Quercus brantii scrub, fallow fields, 700-1150 m.
