Small, domed, much branched shrub, 20-40 cm. Stems recurved-pubescent. Leaves linear- to obovate-spathulate, 9-14 x 3-5 mm, scabrid. Inflorescence strict, lax, 4-12 cm, Verticillasters 2-7, distant, subglobose, dense, many-flowered. Floral leaves usually 1-1.5 x calyces. Bracteoles conspicuous, ovate, acuminate-aristate, ciliate, hiding most of calyces. Calyx 4-6 mm, actinomorphic, teeth lanceolate and shortly aristate, ± as long as tube. Corolla mauve or purple, 8-12 mm. Nutlets 2 mm, oblong, apex obtuse and minutely glandular- hairy. Fl. 4-6. Dry scrub, especially calcareous phrygana, s.l.-400 m.
