Perennial, 45-90 cm, simple or branched. Stems with hispid, spreading, eglandular hairs to 2 mm and short glands below, glabrescent and with more numerous glandular and scattered eglandular hairs above. Middle cauline leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 2-8 x 0.4-1.2 cm, acute, with yellowish spiny tip to 2 mm, finely serrate-dentate or entire, with numerous spreading eglandular and short glandular hairs, reticulately nerved. Verticillasters 3-10, 6-flowered, 4-8 cm distant. Middle bracts orbicular to cordate and reniform, 1.5-2 x 1-1.7 cm incl. spiny acumen 4-12 mm. Calyx 10-12 mm, teeth lanceolate, 3-4 mm, with hispid eglandular hairs to 2.5 mm and glabrous yellowish mucro 1-1.5 mm, tube glandular. Corolla yellow, 11-14 mm, subglabrous and with brown striae inside. Fl. 7-9. Calcareous slopes, steppe, 1100-1350 m.
