Annual, 10-40 cm, simple or branched from base, sparsely or densely villous-lanate, greenish. Stem eglandular, hairs spreading, to 2.5-5 mm. Leaves oblong to lanceolate or linear, acute or mucronate, remotely denticulate-serrate near apex or entire, lamina 10-30 x 2-10 mm, lowermost shortly petiolate. Verticillasters numerous, distant or somewhat congested, 4-6- flowered; upper bracts often yellow. Calyx actinomorphic, 6-10 mm, teeth all subequal, oblong to ovate, 3-5 mm, with 1-2 mucro. Corolla yellow, turning brownish-black, 5-7 rnm. Fl. 5-8. Cultivated and fallow fields, steppe, dry slopes, Pinus woods, Quercus scrub, salt pans, s.l.-2000 m.
