Bulb with dark brown tonic, new bulb forming just above base of old. Basal leaves 1 or rarely 2 and then very unequal, 6-12 cm, to 4 mm broad when pressed, usually 1.5-2 mm diam., hollow. Inflorescence paniculate or subumbellate, branching above upper cauline leaf, 5-8 cm, glabrous or sometimes hairy at ground level. Cauline leaves 2, usually alternate, very unequal, narrowly lanceolate, hooded at apex, lower 3-5 x 0.3-0.6 cm. Flowers 2-6, usually with c. 1 cm of stem between leaves and point of branching. Pedicels 1.5-3 cm, hairy or glabrous, often deflexed. Perianth segments yellow, narrowly lanceolate, 9-12 x 2-3 mm, elongating to 15 mm after flowering. Capsule narrowly ovate or oblanceolate, 6-15 x 4-6 mm, emarginate. Fl. 3-8. Stony hillsides and meadows, 1350-3500 m.
