Stem at least 70-100 cm, 3-10-flowered. Leaves entirely glabrous, median ones in distant whorls, oblanceolate-obovate or sometimes elliptic, shortly broad-acuminate, attenuate below, 70-140 x 20-45 mm. Flowers depressed-globose, pink or purplish-pink, often with darker blotches. Perianth segments linear-oblong, 30-45 x 6-10 mm, spreading from near base then strongly recurved, inner ones obtuse. Filaments 18-22 mm. Anthers 6-11 mm; pollen orange. Style 18-20 mm. Fl. 6-7. Deciduous forests and shady banks, nr s.l.-800 m.
Most of Europe except N., eastwards to Caucasia and Siberia. Euro-Sib. element.
