Tunics brittle, pale brown with a ring of hairs around basal plate and adpressed hairs at neck. Leaves 2-4, 6-20 x 0.5-2 cm, glaucous. Flower usually solitary, infundibular, mauve- or lilac-pink to pink-purple with yellow, blue or purple blotch; outer perianth segments paler outside, 23-45 x 5-15 mm, oblanceolate-elliptic or narrowly elliptic; inner 25-47 x 9-20 mm, obovate-elliptic. Filaments yellow, rarely dark, 9-13 mm; anthers 3-8 mm, yellow or dark. Immature capsule 2.3-3.2 cm, ellipsoid to obovate, stipitate, beaked. Fl. 4-6. Rocky limestone, shaley and igneous slopes and scree, mountain steppe, open Abies - Juniperus excelsa forest, near melting snow-patches, 1150-3400 m.
