Slender glabrous perennial; stems erect, 100-200 cm, branching above. Leaves 60-120 mm, linear lanceolate, cuneate at base, sessile. Inflorescence a lax verticillate spike. Flowers 3-6 in axillary cymose whorls, trimorphic; pedicels 2-4 mm; hypanthium 4 x 1,5 mm, obconical in flower, tubular in fruit; epicalyx segments c. 1 mm, linear-lanceolate; sepals c. 1 mm, deltate; petals 6-9 mm, reddish-purple; stamens 12. Capsule c. 4 x 1 mm, cylindrical. Fl. 6-7. Marshes water channels, etc., s.l-1900 m.
