Annual. Stems ± erect, with an indumentum of small stellate hairs. Leaves 3-5-lobed, crenate-serrate, stellate-pilose above and beneath. Flowers borne singly in the axils of the leaves. Epicalyx segments broad, ± equalling the calyx. Petals reddish violet, 25-35 mm. Process of the carpophore conical, exserted. Mericarps somewhat inflated, with prominent, parallel, transverse ridges. FI. 5-9. Sea shores, fields, cliffs, macchie, s.l-1200 m.
