Leaves cordate, with the lateral veins forking and anastomosing. Petals white, at least the outermost exceeding the sepals. Flower epigynous. Flowers floating, scented. Sepals lanceolate, not persistent. Stigma flat, stigmatic rays up to 20. FI. 5-9. Shallow water.
