Tree to 30 m. Bark finely and deeply reticulate-fissured; twigs and petioles glabrous; winter buds dark brown. Leaflets 1-7-paired, sessile, oblong-lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, 6-8 x 1.5-2.5 cm, acuminate, cuneate and entire at base , usually sharply serrate , serrations 1-1 ½ x as many as lateral veins; glabrous on both sides or shortly villous along midrib beneath; rachis glabrous. Inflorescence a raceme, axillary, leafless, appearing before leaves. Calyx and corolla absent. Fruit variable, obovate-oblong to lanceolate, 2-4.5 x 0.6-1 cm, obtuse to acute.
