Plants 20-60 cm. Leaves crowded near base of stem, large, ± fleshy, oblong-lanceolate, to 25 x 8 cm. Spike to 20 cm. Flowers fragrant. Bracts lanceolate, lower exceeding flowers. Sepals ovate, obtuse, 10-15 mm, slightly concave, greenish or brownish, purplc-dotted on inner surface. Petals ligulate, oblique, shorter than sepals, pale green. Labellum 15-22 mm, base whitish-rose with some purplish dots, lobes greenish, often tinged darker purple; lateral lobes 4-10 mm, falcate with undulate margins; middle lobe quadrate-oblong, 10-15 mm, bilobed, with slightly diverging lobules. Spur conical, c. 5 mm. Column c. 7 mm. Fl. 2-4. Calcareous hillsides, open grassy rocky slopes, Pinus and Quercus woodland, macchie, phrygana, s.l. -630 m.
