Plants 10-30 cm. Leaves 4-6, crowded near base. Flowers 2-6, usually remote. Sepals rose-violet, sometimes whitish, with green mid-vein, 11-15 mm. Petals lanceolate, broadened at base, 7-9 mm, glabrous, darker brownish-rose to purplish-violet. Labellum entire, rarely with lateral incisions, orbicular to obovate, 13-17 mm, flattish or arched, sometimes ± convex, without humps, apex with short point, velvety blackish-purple; speculum horseshoeshaped, with an opening towards apex, or rarely of two lines or patches, metallic blue or bluish-violet. Column with connective to 1.5 mm. Fl. 4. Grassy calcareous slopes, phrygana, macchie, open Pinus forest, s.l.-700 m.
