Plant rather robust, 8-30 cm. Basal leaves 3-4, short, ovate to broadly lanceolate, to 8 x 4 cm, obtuse or subacute. Sepals green to yellowish-green, oblong to ovate, to 10-12mm. Petals olive green or brownish-green, 7-9 x 2-2.5 mm. Labellum 3-lobed, slightly arched, to 20-22 mm, 14-16 mm broad between tips of lateral lobes, brownish and glabrous beneath, blackish-purple velvety above, except for bright metallic blue, shining speculum; middle lobe bilobed with roundish lobules. Fl. 4, c. 2 weeks later than O. fusca. Phrygana, macchie, open Pinus forest, mainly on limestone, preferably on marly soil, s.l.-450 m.
