Plant fairly vigorous, 15-40 cm high. Spike lax, 1- to 5-flowered. Flowers large, at first horizontal, later spreading obliquely from spike axis. Sepals 11-16 x 5-8 mm, oblong-ovate to elliptical, dorsal sepal bent far over column and somewhat smaller than two lateral sepals, light green to green. Petals 7.5-12 x 2.5-4 mm, spathulate, with wavy margins, mostly emarginate at apex, green to yellowish-green. Labellum 13.5-18.5 x 11.5-16.5 mm. 3-lobed, lateral lobes ± bent backwards; middle lobe fairly broad, apex emarginate, usually bent downwards, yellowish-brown. covered with brown hairs, margin yellow. Base of labellum with deep, white-hairy, V-shaped longitudinal groove. Speculum mottled bluish-reddish with paler blue-grey margin. Fl. 4-5. Open pine woods. phrygana, scrub and roadsides; on calcareous soils. s.l.-400 m.
