Plants 15-40 cm. Leaves 4-6, crowded near base, lowest ±ovate, upper broadly lanceolate, ± glaucescent. Spike 2-10-flowered. Sepals green or olive-green, laterals sometimes darker on lower halves. Petals lanceolate or ligulate, 1/2-2/3 x sepals, yellowish-green or brownish,often darker than sepals; margins usually undulate, glabrous. Labellum ± convex, entire, sometimes mucronate at apex, sometimes with short lateral incisions, oblong or obovate, to 12 x 12 mm when spread out, with two humps or slight swellings near base, velvety maroon-brown;speculum of two usually linked parallel lines , bluish, glabrous. Column with acute connective. Fl. 3-5. Grassy limestone slopes, phrygana, macchie, olive groves, meadows, coniferous forest, s.l.-1100 m.
