Stem 10-70 cm. Bracts long-acuminate, often deflexed towards apex,. equalling or longer than flowers. Calyx halves usually bidentate; teeth long acuminate, often subulate, few-veined, glandular-pilose, equalling or longer than corolla tube. Corolla 15-20 mm, cylindrical, erecto-patent, later spreading, white or yellowish-white, violet on upper lip chiefly on veins, soon becoming dry and light yellowish-brown; dorsal line nearly straight or a little curved from a little-curved base, upper lip a little curved downwards, apex often erect; upper lip with spreading lobes, lobes of lower lip subequal; all lobes with glabrous crenulate margins. Stamens inserted 3-5 mm above corolla base, filaments abundantly pilose near base or in lower half; anthers shortly acuminate. Style sparingly glandular-pilose, stigma red-violet or purple. Fl. 5. Usually on Compositae and Umbelliferae , 50-300 m.
