Perennial, ± densely glandular-viscid. Stems sturdy, erect, 60-100 cm, single or few, usually branched above. Leaves alternate below, opposite above, lanceolate, to 6.8 x 2.2 cm, sessile, acute, entire. Inflorescence ± narrowly paniculate, many-flowered. Bracts lanceolate. Pedicels to 6.5 mm, spreading-erect. Calyx tubular to tubular-campanulate, to 12 mm in flower, broadening in fruit; tube to 5 mm; upper lobes emarginate, c. 7 mm long. Corolla golden yellow, sometimes maroon at base of lip, to 20 mm; tube c. 6 mm; upper lip c. 14 mm incl. a c. 7 mm straight beak; lower lip c. 14 mm broad, ± equally 3-lobed, shorter than upper. Style pilose. Capsule c. 6 x 5 mm, broadly oblong, pilose; seeds 50-70, c. 1.3 x 0.8 mm, striate. Fl. 6-8. Rocky limestone slopes, riverside meadows, amongst spiny Astragalus, 2300-3350 m.
