Scapose, with a deep bulb emitting an underground stem bearing bulbils. Leaflets obtriangular, deeply emarginate. Scape exceeding the leaves, bearing an umbel of flowers at its apex. Sepals c. 5 mm. Petals bright yellow, 15-25 mm. Damp places, olive groves, vineyards, etc.
A native of the Cape region of S. Africa, widely naturalised in the Mediterranean area.
