Biennial or perennial. Stems papillose to glabrous, 30-50 cm. Radical leaves lyrate-pinnatifid, the segments sinuate-dentate. Stem leaves amplexicaul, with rounded or obtuse, mucronate segments. Sepals crisply pilose. Petals usually yellow, occasionally reddish or reddish-mauve. Ovary densely papillose-tuberculate. Siliquae 15-25 cm, straight or arcuate, papillose-tuberculate over most of their length , neither torulose nor attenuate at the apex. Fl. 5-7. Maritime, usually near s.l., though penetrating inland in river valleys.
Widespread in Europe in suitable habitats, N.W. Africa, W. Caucasia.
