Annual herb, usually glaucous. Stems erect, 30-60 cm. Lower leaves with a short repand petiole, the upper leaves sessile and amplexicaul, all crenate-serrate or serrate-dentate. Buds ovoid-oblong, 1,5-2 cm. Petals ± orbicular, white to lilac to purple, or variegated. Filaments clavate. Capsule globose, substipitate, 5-7 x 4-5 cm. Disc ± flat, divided at the margin into discrete spreading, crenulate lobes. Stigmas 8-12. FI. 5. Cultivated, frequently escaping.
