Differs from P. brutia in its shorter , narrower leaves, bark always greyish, the cones borne 1-2 together, always stalked and pendulous, and the scales with a raised umbo. Growing with P. brutia, c. 100 m.
Throughout the Mediterranean area, but less common in the east. Medit. element.
