Biennial or perennant. Stems usually solitary, 30-80 cm, often purplish. Median leaves oblong-lanceolate or oblanceolate, 5-12 x 1-2 cm, glabrous or with margin softly ciliate, sometimes falcate. Raceme very dense, many-flowered, axis glandular-villous. Bracts lanceolate, ciliate, lower often exceeding flowers. Calyx lobes 6-8 mm, linear-oblong, very acute, glandular-villous. Corolla light fawn, 18-25 mm; tube ventricose; lower lip lingulate, 10-13 mm, oblong to ovate, much longer than adjacent lateral lobes and ± equal to tube. Fl. 5-6. Hillsides in macchie, scrub or phrygana, 50-100 m.
