Perennial herb, very variable. Stems 20-130 cm, ascending or erect, simple or paniculate. Leaves alternate, ± dense, median ovate, lanceolate or linear, 15-60 x 0.5-2.0 mm, rarely subcordate at base, 1-3-nerved. Racemes dense to lax and elongate. Bracts lanceolate, seldom reaching top of calyx, lowest sometimes deflexed. Lower pedicels 2-4 mm. Calyx lobes ovate to narrowly linear-lanceolate, rounded at base, acute, herbaceous throughout, 2-5 mm, always glabrous. Corolla bright or sulphur yellow, with or without reddish venation, 8-12 mm; spur conical-subulate, 5-8 mm, ± straight. Capsule spherical, 3-4 mm, slightly longer to shorter than calyx. Seeds compressed-tetrahedral, 1-1.2 mm, rugulose, angles often narrowly winged. Fl. 5-8.
