Stems 30-70 cm, sometimes branched at base, pubescent, rarely glandular. Leaves opposite, basal and lower cauline petiolate, lamina ovate to ovatelanceolate, 40-80 x 20-40 mm, pubescent to subglabrous, subcoriaceous, margin crenate; upper sessile, lanceolate. Racemes terminal, spike-like, 8-25 cm, often with 1-4 smaller lateral ones just below. Pedicels absent or less than 1 mm, pubescent. Bracts linear-lanceolate, subequal to calyx. Calyx 2,5-5 mm, pubescent hairs usually glandular, patent, marginal ones equal to those on surface. Corolla blue to violet, lobes 3-5 mm, linear, involute, twisted, recurved at apex. Capsule 3-4 x 3-4 mm, pubescent, often glandular. Fl. 6-9. Quercus forest, dry grassland.
