Perennial, 25-50 cm, often slightly woody and slightly branched at base; stems erect or slightly ascending at base, robust, ± densely pilose with ± crisp 0.8-1.2 mm hairs and with 6-11 pairs of leaves below lowest raceme. Leaves subsessile, 15-25 x 5-20 mm, deeply pinnatisect or ± bipinnatisect , pubescent with upward-curved or ±crisp 0.4-1,2 mm hairs; margins slightly revolute; often ± blackening when dry. Raceme 2-4, usually opposite, 10-15 cm, 30-50-flowered, axis and pedicels pubescent with ± crisp eglandular 0.4-1.0 mm hairs, peduncle 4-10 cm. Pedicels 3-6 mm, 0.7-1.5 x bracts. Lower bracts pinnatifid, upper linear. Calyx 4-7 mm, lobes 4-5, linear-lanceolate, pilose or glabrous. Corolla bright to deep blue, 12-18 mm diam. Style 5-6,5 mm. Capsule elliptic to suborbicular, 5-7 x 4-6 mm, 1-1,5 x calyx, shortly pubescent or glabrous, base rounded-truncate, sinus ± acute, 0.2-0.25 x capsule length, lobes often somewhat pointed at apex. Seeds c. 6-12, elliptic, 2-2,5 x 1,5- 2 mm, slightly convex, rugose. Fl. 4-6. Quercus and Pinus forests and scrub, macchie, stony slopes, ruins, 250-1300 m.
