Annual, erect, 8-20 cm, not or ± branched ; blackening when dry. Stems sparsely pubescent with very short curved eglandular and scattered longer glandular hairs, rarely glabrous. Lower leaves petiolate, upper subsessile, all glabrous. Lamina broadly ovate to subtriangular or rhombic, 5-14x 3-10 mm, base truncate to cuneate, margin subentire to shallowly serrate-dentate with 1-3 teeth per side. Raceme 5-20-flowered, glandular-pubescent. Bracts oblanceolate, entire or lower slightly serrulate. Fruiting pedicels 5-10 mm, erecto-patent, 1,5-2 x bracts, ± hooked upwards below fruit, pubescent with very short eglandular curved hairs and 4-celled 0,3-0,4 mm glandular hairs. Corolla blue or pale blue, 4-6 mm diam. Style 1,2-1,6 mm. Capsule 3-3,5 x 4,5-6 mm, c. 1,5 x calyx, hygrochastic, sinus acute, 0,45-0,6 x capsule, base broadly truncate to subcordate, lobes suborbicular, glandular-ciliate, otherwise glabrous; style subequalling sinus. Seeds c. 10-30, elliptic, 1,3-1,6 x 0,7-1 mm, ± flat, smooth, sticky when wet. 2n= 28. Fl. 4-7. Pinus and Abies forests, wet places, often on clay, 700-2500 m.
