Perennial, 5-10 cm, woody at base, very strongly branched, rather densely caespitose, decumbent to ascending , greyish-velvety-tomentose. Leaves subsessile, cuneate-obovate to linear-oblanceolate, 5-10 x 1.5-5 mm, apex rounded-obtuse, base cuneate, margin deeply crenate to serrate-crenate with 4-10 teeth and strongly revolute; hairs very dense, 0.1-0.4 mm, thin, eglandular, straight, patent or sub-retrorse. Racemes 4-7, opposite, rather densely 30-70-flowered, densely glandular-pubescent . Pedicels 3-4 mm, 1-2 x bracts. Calyx 2-2.5 mm, lobes 4. Corolla bright pink, purple or deep mauve, often with dark purple ring surrounding white centre, 5-8 mm diam. Style 2-4 mm. Capsule obcordate, 2-3.5 x 3-4 mm, subequalling calyx or slightly longer, puberulent with thin 0.1-0.2 mm eglandular or glandular hairs. Seeds c. 2-8, elliptic, ± flat, c. 1,5 x1 mm, rugose. Fl. 5-6. Calcareous steppe, c. 1000-1400 m.
