Differs from A. cariensis in having velutinous scapes to 20 cm, leaves all of one type , and calyx veins not excurrent. Fl. 5. Maritime sands; cultivated.
Most of Europe, incl. Mediterranean area. Possibly introduced deliberately as a garden plant and escaping along the shore of the Bosphorus.
