Laxly caespitose perennial with fibrous rhizome. Stems 17-30 cm, erect, bulbous at base, 1-2-noded. Leaf sheaths glabrous; ligule 1.5-2.5 mm, obtuse-truncate; blades 6-25 cm x 1-4 mm, linear, acuminate, glabrous to slightly scabridulous. Panicle 6-15 x 2-5 cm, rather dense; pedicels curved, scabrid. Spikelets 12-16 mm, gaping. Rachilla segments 1.5-2 mm, covered with long hairs c. 5-7 mm. Glumes lanceolate, acuminate; lower 6.5-9 mm, upper 12-13.5 mm. Lower lemma 13-15 mm, terminating in 2 aristate points c. 1-2.5 mm; awn 25-40 mm, arising from above base, geniculate and twisted in lower half. Upper lemma subterminally awned; awn 10-16 mm, straight, not twisted in lower half. Anthers 2.3-4.6 mm. Fl. 4-5. Dry mountain slopes.
