Annual. Stems 10-25 cm, usually tufted, erect or geniculately ascending from base, retrorsely puberulent, with 1-3 nodes. Leaf sheaths puberulent; ligules to 1.2 mm, truncate; blades 1-4.5 cm x 0.8-2 mm, linear, acuminate, usually puberulent, flat or sometimes involute. Panicle 3.1-8.5 x 1.2-2 ern, oblong to oblong-cylindrical; branches 1-3.3 cm; pedicels 1.2-3.7 mm, scabrid. Spikelets 3.7-6.4 mm. Rachilla segments 0.5-0.7 mm, slightly scabrid. Glumes scabrid on keel; lower 1.3-1.6 mm, linear, acuminate; upper 3.7-6.4 mm, lanceolate, mucronate. Lemma 2-4.5 mm, linear-lanceolate; awn 2.9-3.5 mm, straight, slightly scabrid; callus scabrid. Palea 1.5-2.2 mm, scabrid, on keels. Anthers 0.4-0.5 mm. Fl. 5. Dry open places near the sea.
