Annual, without vegetative basal shoots. Stem 10-25 cm. Cauline leaves sparse, 2-4 mm broad. Panicle very lax, 3-6 x3-5 cm, 3-4 x branched. Pedicels much longer than spikelets, spreading. Spikelets 20-c. 100, nodding, broadly ovate-deltoid, c. 3 mm long, c. 4 mm broad at base, obtuse. Glumes persistent, horizontal, 2-3 mm, orbicular when opened out, obtuse, deeply concave, glabrous. Lemmas 4-5, closely overlapping, reniform when opened out, glabrous. Palea shorter than lemma, 2-keeled. Fl. 5. Edge of Quercus forest, marshy grassland, springs on serpentine debris, etc., nr s.l.-30 m.
