Stems to 35 cm, procumbent to erect, rigid. Leaf sheaths inflated, smooth. Ligules truncate to acute, jagged, 1-4 mm. Panicle 1.5-16 cm, mostly with 1 spikelet and 1-2 branches at each node; branches and pedicels pulvinate, ± divaricate or sometimes reflexed at maturity. Pedicels 0.5-2 mm, smooth and terete or angular and scabrid, Spikelets 8-16 mm, narrowly ovate, with 5-9 florets. Glumes obtuse to acute at apex, sometimes mucronate, smooth; lower 4-6.5 mm, 3-veined; upper 5-7.5 mm, 3-5-veined. Lemma 5.5-9.4 mm, glabrous, obtuse to acute and apiculate at apex, with a broad insertion and usually partly enfolding next higher rachilla segment and lemma at maturity. Rachilla segments 1-1.5 mm, glabrous. Anthers 1.6-2.5 mm, exserted at anthesis, Caryopsis 3-4.5 mm. Fl. 5-6. Sand dunes, nr s.l.
