Stems to 42 cm, prostrate to erect, somewhat rigid. Leaf sheaths inflated, smooth. Ligules truncate to obtuse, jagged, 2-5 rnm, Panicle 3-18 cm, mostly with 1 spikelet and 1 branches at each node; branches and pedicels pulvinate, strongly divaricate at maturity. Pedicels 0.3-0.6 mm, sharply angular. Spikelets 7-10.5 mm, oblanceolate, with 2-3 florets. Glumes acute to acuminate at apex, with excurrent apiculus to 0.4 mm, glabrous or aculeolate on midrib only, with 1 thick, prominent vein; lower 3.5-5 mm; upper 4.5-6 mm. Lemma 5.8-7.5 mm to apical notch, glabrous or aculeolate on midrib only, emarginate to shortly bifid with an excurrent midrib to 1.2 mm at apex. Rachilla segments 1.5-3.2 mm, sparsely to densely aculeolate. Anthers 1-2 mm, exserted at anthesis. Caryopsis c. 3-4 mm. Fl. 5. Sandy ground, nr s.l- c. 300m.
