Annual. Stems ascending from a decumbent base or prostrate, often 20-60 cm. Leaf sheaths hirsute below, hairs arising from minute tubercles; blades linear-acuminate, to 9 mm broad, puberulent or hirsute to glabrous. Racemes 3-7 or more, 3-15 cm, arranged digitately or on a central axis shorter than raceme. Spikelets 2.5-4 mm, acute, conspicuously hairy or apparently glabrous. Lower glume a small scale, upper c. half as long as spikelets, 3-veined; lower lemma 7-veined, veins ± scabrid atleast in upper half. Fl. 6-10. Margins of Alnus woods, shaley slopes, and as a weed of cultivated and waste land, gardens and lawns, s.l.- c. 500 m.
