Annual. Stems to 60 cm, erect or decumbent, often rooting from lower nodes. Leaves mostly glabrous, 2-8 mm broad; ligule absent. Inflorescence erect; racemes to 2-3 cm. Spikelets 2.5-3 mm, minutely hairy, green or purple. Lower glume 1-2 mm, 3-veined; upper glume as long as spikelet, 5-veined. Lower lemma similar to upper glume, upper coriaceous, glabrous and shiny, with short mucro. Fl. 5-9. Weed of irrigated fields and gardens.
Native to tropics and subtropics.
