Loosely tufted perennial. Stems 60-120 cm, branching at lower nodes, smooth or scabridulous, Ligules truncate, 0.5-1.5 mm. Leaf blades flat, to 30 cm x 2.8 mm ;upper surface scabridulous to scabrid, lower glabrous. Panicle lax, 15-30 cm, branches slender, divergent, in whorls of 3-40, scabrid. Spikelets ovate to lanceolate. Glurnes 3-4 mm, 3-veined, margins hyaline or tinged purple, acuminate. Lemma obovate, 1.5-2 x 1 mm, glabrous, golden brown, apex shortly lobed. Awn subterminal, slender, 3-4 mm, exserted 2-3 mm, caduceus. Lodicules 0.6~0.7 rnm, upper one ± linear. Anthers 2-2.5 mm, bearded. Caryopsis obovoid, 1.5-1.7 x 0.6-0.8 rnm.
