Caespitose perennial. Stems 15-70 cm, erect or geniculately ascending from base, glabrous, smooth, 3-5-noded, lowest node rather thickened. Leaf sheaths smooth; ligule 1.5-2.5 mm, obtuse; blades 2-16 cm x 1.5-2.5 mm, linear, acuminate, glabrous, slightly scabridulous on margins. Panicle 1-6 cm x 3-5 mm, cylindrical. Spikelets 1.9-2.5mm , oblong,truncate. Glumes oblong, broadly hyaline on margins, ciliate on keel; aristate points 0.2-0.5 mm; lower glume softly hairy on margins; upper glume glabrous on margins. Lemma 0.7-1.8 mm, truncate-denticulate. Palea ± equalling lemma. Anthers 1-2 mm. Fl. 5-7. Sandy soil, roadsides, fields, 30-1500 m.
