Perennial. Stems solitary or tufted, erect, 30-75 cm, smooth, glaucous, glabrous. Ligule 1.5-3 mm, Leaf blades flat or folded, involute when dry, 3-20 cm x 0.5-3 mm, acute to acuminate, margins and adaxial surface scabridulous. Inflorescence becoming lax-spreading, 10-25 x 8-12 cm; branches slender, 2-6 from lower nodes, scabridulous, naked at least in proximal 1/3. Spikelets 4-6-flowered, 4-6 mm. Glumes unequal, ovate-lanceolate, subacute to subobtuse or slightly notched at apex, lower 0.8-1.5 mm, upper 1.5-2 mm. Lemmas dorsally rounded, oblong-obovate, 1.5-2.5 mm, truncate, greenish- yellow or purplish with yellow margins and apex. Keels of palea ciliolate-scabrid in upper half. Anthers 0.5-1 mm.
