Annual. Stems 3-50 cm, erect or geniculately ascending from base, smooth and glabrous, usually fasciculate, sometimes solitary. Leaf sheaths usually hairy; ligules 1-2 mm; blades 2-13 cm x 1-7 mm, linear-Ianceolate, acuminate, ± villous to pubescent. Panicle 1-6 x 0.3-1.3 cm, oblong, narrowly oblong-cylindrical or ovate, dense to lax, pale green; pedicels scabridulous. Spikelets 2.2-5.5 mm, with 3-5 florets. Rachilla shortly hairy. Glumes unequal, acuminate, glabrous, irregularly pubescent or hirsute; lower 1.4-2.8 mm, upper 2-4 mm. Lemma 2.7-4.2 mm, glabrous or irregularly pubescent, acute at apex in side view, with a subterminal awn 0.5-2.3 mm. Palea shorter than lemma, bifid. Anthers 0.2-0.6 mm, ovoid or rounded-ovoid. Fl. 4-7. Waste or open places, sandy plots, forested foothills, mountain slopes, s.l.-1200 m.
