Annual. Stems 20-100 cm, erect or geniculate, ± branched. Leaf sheaths hairy on margins; blades Iinear-lanceolate, glabrous. Inflorescence a spike-like panicle, cylindrical or tapering upwards, erect or nodding. Spikelets 2-2.2 mm, clustered on strongly verticillate branches, surrounded by 1-2 bristles; upper glume equalling spikelet; lemma of fertile floret finely transversely rugose. Fl. 7-10. Disturbed ground, irrigated fields and gardens, ditches, s.l.-800 m.
