Perennial with a woody caudex. Stems numerous, ascending, up to 60 cm. Leaves alternate, close, the lower spathulate to lanceolate, the upper lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, larger than the lower. Inflorescences all terminal, ± glabrous, bracts exceeding the pedicels. Upper sepal not gibbous. Inner sepals obovate to elliptic to broadly elliptic, 10-15 x 4-5 mm, shorter than the corolla tube, pink to red purple. Capsule oblong, abruptly narrowed into a stipe which is as long as or longer than the capsule, narrowly winged, the wing ± equally broad all round the capsule. Fl. 5-9. Rocky slopes, banks and ledges, s.l.-2250 m.
