Perennial herb with a slender stock. Stems ± prostrate, ribbed and branched, up to 50 cm. Ochreae exceeding the internodes, brownish at the base, 8-12-nerved. Leaves elliptic, revolute, greyish, often drying blackish purple, sessile. Flowers in fascicles in the upper axils. Perianth white, 3,5-4 mm. Nut brown, shining, somewhat exserted from the perianth. Fl. 6-11. Sand dunes, sandy shores nr. s.l.
