Perennial herb, with thick rhizomes, stem up to 50 cm tall, erect, glabrous, slightly verrucose, 10–20 in diam. at base, unbranched and with only basal leaves. Basal leaves 1 , petiolate; petioles 2–20 cm, glabrous; leaves blade green, reniform-rotate, 6.5–100.0 × 4.5–56.0 cm, leathery, both surface glabrous, upper surface of leaves warty, basal veins reticulate with 5–6 prominent red veins, middle one stout, leaves base cordate, margin minutely denticulate, apex retuse, ocrea glabrous, ca. 3 cm. long, brown, clasping. Inflorescence a narrow panicle with usually two short lateral branches, dense, glabrous. Pedicel 6–11 mm, jointed below middle. Flowers pinky and pale-yellow, bisexual, 3- or 5-fascicled. Perianth 6 equal segments united below, perianth length 3–6 mm, persistent, tepals 6, obovate, outer 3 smaller and inner 3 bigger . Styles 3. Stamens 9, inserted at bottom of calyx, slightly comperessed. Ovary obovoid, stigmas capitate inflated. Fruits samaroid achene with three winged. Also, perianth segments persistent in achene. Achenes cordate-triangular, 8–15 × 8–16 mm, surface central part greenish-brown, wings reddish-purple , base cordate, apex retuse; wings membraneus, lustrous, 2–5 mm wide, entire.
