Ssp bucephalophorus; Ssp graecus; Ssp hipporegii
Annual, often glaucous. Stems up to 30 cm. Basal leaves long-petiolate, spathulate. Glomeruli 2-3-flowered. Flowers, pedicels and fruits usually dimorphic. Pedicels filiform, rigidly recurved, or much longer, broad and flat, flexuous. Perianth segments toothed, enlarging in fruit. Fl. 2-5. Fields, dunes, s.l-150 m.
Mediterranean area, Sinai, Arabia. Medit. element. Rechinger divides this species into a number of subspecies, 3 of which are recorded for Turkey: subsp. hipporegii Rech., subsp. graecus Rech. and subsp. aegaeus Rech. The characters on which these are based – presence or absence of broadened pedicels, size and nature of toothing of inner perianth segments - do not seem to be well correlated in the Turkish material.
