Similar to P. amblyphyllus, but usually smaller and more slender; leaves filiform to narrowly linear, usually less than 1 mm broad, often brownish; peduncles shorter; spikes widely interrupted even at anthesis; fruitlets 2.25-2.75 mm. Lakes, c. 2000 m.
N., W. & C. Europe, extending very locally S. to N.E. Spain, S. Italy and Cma Gora ; N.W. Iran, Afghanistan, W. Pakistan, Siberia, N. America.
